Dr. Isabel Campos Plasencia
The impact of Grid technologies in scientific computing:
present status and perspectives
Short biography
Doctor Isabel Campos Plasencia is staff scientist of the Spanish National Research Council at the Institute of Physics of Cantabria, in Santander, where she works on physics applications in advanced computing environments, area in which she has over 12 years of experience.
She did the PhD on Quantum Chromodynamic Simulations at the Department of Theoretical Physics of the University of Zaragoza.
At the postdoctoral level she has worked at the physics group of DESY in Hamburg, Germany, in the development of numerical algorithms. This work she has applied to Supersymmetric models.
She got a second postdoc at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York, where she continued her work in this field.
From the beginning of 2002 she was the responsible of scientific applications on Linux at the Leibniz Computing Center in Munich.
From July 2006 she is at the Institute of Physics of Cantabria-CSIC working in the projects and development of the grid computing research line at the institute.
present status and perspectives
Grid computing technology has made possible the setup of large scale distributed e-Infrastructures like those supported by the EGEE project in Europe or OSG in USA. They provide a large volume of computing resources for distributed communities of researchers collaborating in international projects, enabling an e-Science activity.
In this presentation we will discuss the challenges of grid technologies when it comes to involve scientific communities in adopting the grid as an everyday tool for computational work.
